Bill De Blasio was sworn in as the new mayor of NYC. He is the first Democratic mayor in many decades. De Blasio is a strict progressive who is not shy about his views in favor of abortion, gay marriage, contraception and other issues that rub the Church the wrong way. He was elected on the platform that he will address the "tale of two cities" problem which he believes is a big problem in New York City.
This "tale" is pretty much about the 1% vs the 99%. New York City is a city where only the rich can live. Rents can be as high as $3000 for one bedroom. Many jobs pay minimum wages basically disqualifying many New Yorkers from living comfortably without having to worry where they will find money to pay bills.
De Blasio has already had a run-in with the Catholic Church. He omitted the presence of Catholic priests on his transition board favoring other faiths. See (http://www.sacerdotus.com/2013/11/de-blasio-shuns-catholics.html). He already promised to push his progressive views on the law so this will be another headache for Cardinal Dolan and all Catholics.
Let us pray for New York City and for Mayor De Blasio that he may remember God and His will when making decisions.
